New artists confirmed!
Four months to go until c/o pop No.6 kicks off! The first tickets are now on sale and the number of top bands, DJs and live acts on our CONFIRMED list is growing. Here's an update on the festival programme 2009.
We are thrilled to be welcoming THE WHITEST BOY ALIVE (Fri. 14.08. // Opernterrassen) and just as delighted to have confirmed our latest addition to the concert programme, wonder boy PATRICK WOLF. Like TWBA Wolf is gracing c/o pop with his presence for the second time, having already appeared in 2004. This time around though, the androgynous songwriter is now a veritable star in the indie pop firmament. Wolf's support band is another act fast on its way to stardom: MICACHU & THE SHAPES (both Thurs. 13.08. // Opernterrassen) - experimental lo-fi pop with notes of of indie, electro and grime.
Along with BONAPARTE and SCHWEFELGELB, the fantastic METRONOMY from Brighton (Fri. 14.08. // Gloria) has now signed up to complete a fast and furious night of trash punk and electro-pop.
ELLEN ALLIEN, one of the best known female protagonists of the international techno scene is giving her c/o pop debut at one of Cologne's top club nights, TOTAL CONFUSION, which is taking place for the first time ever as part of c/o pop (Thurs. 13.08 // Bogen 2). TOBIAS THOMAS will also be hosting the Paris-based electro trio dOP, TATO CADO from Mexico and Hamburg's TOBIAS SCHMID.
This long night of TOTAL CONFUSION is being opened by the London-based group THESE NEW PURITANS, once the favourite band of Hedi »Dior Homme« Slimane. The group recently signed to the label Domino and will be releasing their second album this summer.
The same evening sees globetrotter MATIAS AGUAYO and his Cologne-based homie CHRISTIAN S. present, in the legendary Roxy Club on Rudolfplatz, the exciting new label CÒMEME, which Aguayo founded together with his longtime collaborator GARY PIMIENTO (bumbumbox) from Buenos Aires and which is about to revolutionise electronic dance music. The label is dominated by Latin American artists, but also features the odd European infected with the Latin vibe.
CÒMEME brings you the fast and furious REBOLLEDO from Mexico, DJs PAREJA from Buenos Aires, DIEGORS from Chile, CAPRACARA from London and KORKUT ELBAY from Cologne (Thurs. 13.08. // Roxy).
Alongside well known local stars such as GUI BORATTO, MICHAEL MAYER and SUPERPITCHER, the traditional KOMPAKT LABEL NIGHT (Fri. 14.08 // Opernterrassen), this time in another new venue, presents the enigmatic Icelandic electro-pop band GUSGUS, an extremely prominent new name on the label, live in concert.
The second »LOCAL HEROES« club night once again features over 15 of Cologne's best-loved party collectives their local and international guests who are gathering to paint Saturday night all the colours of the musical spectrum.
Confirmed DJs include GOLDIE LOCKS, TODD TERJE, MARCEL JANOVSKY & GABRIEL ANANDA, MATHEW JONSON, MARCUS WORGULL, SHUMI, COMA and many more (Sat. 15.08. // various clubs)
After the traditional PollerWiesen open air event, this year featuring RICARDO VILLALOBOS, ADAM BEYER and RARESH (Sun. 16.08 // Jugendpark), the grand finale and closing ceremony of c/o pop will be conducted by KREIDLER, VON SPAR, ANTONELLI and PRINS THOMAS (Sun. 16.08. // Opernterrassen).
